Invisalign® In Edmonton

For Long Term Oral Health

So many of us have looked in the mirror and thought about the possibility of braces. The result being a well aligned smile and relief from self-consciousness sounds great at first. That is, until we consider the process involved in installing, adjusting and removing traditional metal braces for a course of treatment.

Not only do metal braces stand-out prominently on the teeth, but sharp brackets and wires and the irritation caused to the cheeks and tongue may not sound worth to trade. If you haven’t heard about Invisalign® here’s what you need to know about this revolutionary alignment correction system.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® uses what we know about traditional orthodontic therapy and offers an unobtrusive alternative for people whose teeth are mildly to moderately out of alignment. Invisalign® is a program which uses a series of clear dental trays, known as aligners, which are custom made to fit snugly over the teeth and move them into alignment as the aligners dictate in their incremental changes over time. While traditional braces are still required for cases of severe malocclusion, Invisalign® has helped thousands fix mild to moderate alignment problems.

We offer free Invisalign consultations to help you learn more about your options. Contact our clinic today to book an appointment.

Safely Align Your Teeth

Invisalign® therapy is a very different approach to the way that we have traditionally aligned our teeth. Usually, metal braces use brackets that are bonded to the teeth and attached to wires that wrap around the teeth from bracket to bracket. As the orthodontist makes adjustments to the braces, pressure is exerted on the teeth from the outside of the arch, unless lingual braces are being used. In that case, the brackets and wire would be placed behind the lower teeth. Cells called osteoclasts and osteoblasts help the teeth to respond to this pressure by slowly changing their placement while bone is rotated from one side and replaced on the other side to keep the teeth well-anchored into the bone socket.

Cleaning After Eating

After eating a meal, it is recommended that you brush and floss your teeth before reintroducing the aligners. Since aligners fit so snugly to the teeth, they are effective traps for any bacteria between the teeth and along the gum line. Keeping your teeth this clean throughout your 12-18-month treatment with Invisalign® may offer surprising benefits aside from straighter teeth. Many Invisalign® wearers have reported an improvement in their overall oral health as a result of the hygiene regimen required for Invisalign®.
