Sedation dentistry helps you relax during your appointment. At Stringham Dentistry we offer two options for sedation dentistry to for our patients to ensure their dental visit is a comfortable as possible.
Due to the ability to control the amount the of gas during the procedure, increasing and decreasing it as needed, nitrous oxide is our sedation method of choice for children.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide sedation works by breathing the sweet-smelling gas through a mask placed over the nose. The dentist is able to control the percentage of the nitrous oxide to ensure that the right ratio is being used to help you relax. Nitrous oxide is not designed to put you to sleep but helps you relax. You will still be able to respond to questions and commands. At the end of the appointment the nitrous oxide is turned off and within a few minutes the effects have worn off, and no hang over effect is present which is often the case with other sedative methods.
Although there are not a lot of contraindication for the use nitrous oxide sedation some do exist so we check to ensure that you good candidate by reviewing your medical history and current medication. During the appointment your vital signs are monitored.

Oral Sedation (Anti Anxiety Pills)
Oral sedation works by taking a pill 1 hour before your appointment to help you relax.
With oral sedation we check to ensure that you good candidate by reviewing your medical history and current medication. During the appointment your vital signs are monitored. Oral sedation is designed to make you drowsy so it is very important that you have arrangements for somebody to drive you home after the appointment. During the appointment you will be able to respond to questions and commands but will feel much more relaxed.
